One teenage boy was discovered deceased just days following being wrongly accused of stealing the ashes of a deceased baby during a burglary, an inquest has heard.

Heartbreaking Finding

Kai Lloyd's mother and father found his remains in his room at his Flintshire residence on 19 November 2021.

Untrue Accusations Begin

The investigation heard how his parent received a communication on November 8th, 2021 via social media, from a woman asking if Kai was her child. The message added: "Tell him appreciation for breaking into my apartment."

In a testimony read to the proceedings, the mother said the woman had been in the media, asserting her baby's remains had been taken in a burglary - a claim which was untrue.

Law Enforcement Investigation

An investigation report from authorities later determined the supposed break-in complainant had "provided false information" and "it now appears that the property was never stolen in the beginning".

Media reports about the alleged taken remains generated social media responses, and although the teenager was not named in the posts, his mother said individuals "knew it was him".

The "online posts were really distressing", she said.

Mental Wellbeing Effect

She added that her son had been identified with moderate attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and as part of that disorder, other peoples' opinions really mattered to him.

"It would have hurt him deeply," she commented, "particularly when this was untrue".

Kai was arrested at home, but nothing was discovered. He was transported to a law enforcement facility and later freed under investigation.

Police said they would be in contact, the hearing learned, but had not reached out to the relatives by the moment of his death.

Isolation and Worry

His parent said Kai "became isolated" after the detention and "would keep asking me whether I had received anything from the police", because his ADHD meant sometimes "certain periods could feel like much longer".

When she spoke to him about the supposed incident, she said her son told her he had gone into the residence because the woman who lived there had said he could utilize the bathroom whenever he needed, but refuted taking anything.

Online Bullying

In a combined testimony between her and her spouse, Mrs Lloyd said her child was being harassed online after the accusations.

The proceedings heard that one young adult urged Kai to end his life.

She had no concerns on the night before he died, explaining how she had heard him "laughing and joking".

She described him as a "compassionate, affectionate" boy, and said her "relatives is completely devastated".

He had been "clearly concealing his concerns", she said, noting that he could not bear to have anybody "think bad of him".

School Reaction

The inquest received testimony from educational personnel at the local secondary school.

On November 8th, she "heard some students discussing that Kai had been detained and that was the first I heard".

"He informed me... he'd done nothing wrong," she added.

After the discussion, the educator said she called Kai's family landline and left a message saying she had communicated to Kai about the accusations.

The proceedings heard his family said they never got that message.

Official Conclusion

Lead coroner informed the hearing he would await reports regarding what enhancements had been made to handling individuals with the condition, before determining whether he should make a prevention of future fatalities report.

Providing a narrative finding, he stated: "Around November 8th, 2021, unsupported accusations were made against Kai Benjamin Lloyd, a 14-year-old individual.

"Probably untruths were subsequently exaggerated and exaggerated through the platform of social media.

"On November 11th, he was questioned by the authorities and after his questioning he was released whilst investigations continued."

The official concluded: "Exists no evidence that the actions or failures of any agency caused or added to his passing and although it was the outcome of a self-inflicted action it is not possible to determine his purpose."
