The Gunners' boss feels assured that his team can persist in handling with injury setbacks following revealing that forward Kai Havertz is not ready for several more weeks.

Prolonged Recovery for Havertz

Havertz has been out since August following an operation on his knee. Initially expected to be available earlier in December, the manager stated the player faced a hurdle when increasing his recovery and was unable to move forward “the required stage.”

“We took lessons, and managed to assemble a team that is far more dependable and has greater depth,” commented Arteta.

Tactical Decisions for Brentford Clash

This development leaves a tactical puzzle for Wednesday’s fixture at the Emirates against Brentford. Arteta must choose between continuing to use Mikel Merino, who scored playing out of position against Chelsea, or bringing back Viktor Gyökeres, who came back after a fitness issue off the bench. Long-term absentee Gabriel Jesus remains available after 11 months out.

Fitness Doubts Remain

More doubts involve centre-back William Saliba and attacker Leandro Trossard, who sat out the Stamford Bridge game. Consequently, new recruits Cristhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapié will probably keep their places in central defence for the table-toppers.

Arteta believes the significant outlay on squad depth in the last transfer window has placed the club in a much stronger position to deal with such unavailability.

Questioned if more options was aiding their title quest, his response was positive. “Yes, since the current term has presented greater challenges in some areas, and now the problems with the defence,” he continued.

“History has shown us that we must deploy players in alternative spots, and they must be capable to perform various functions if we aim to challenge at this level. And the case of Mikel is probably the prime illustration.”

Manager’s Sympathy for Suffering Havertz

Speaking about the delay previously mentioned by national team coach Julian Nagelsmann, Arteta provided more insight. “His recovery was progressing. He failed to advance to the required step and now it’s looking like we have solved that issue.”

He shared his eagerness to welcome him back. “Everyone is eager to have him. I mean, he is a footballer who, personally, I value highly for what he brings to the team, but his personality, his attitude. I observe his frustration on the sidelines.”
