To mark the quarter-millennial of America's independence, the US Treasury is considering the production of a $1 coin depicting President Trump with a clenched fist under an US flag and the inscription “fight, fight, fight”.

Government Statement

US Treasurer Brandon Beach shared a concept of the coin on recently via social media, stating: “Absolutely real. These concepts honoring America’s 250th birthday and [Trump] are authentic.”

The social media post – which highlighted another user discussing the draft design – mentioned that Beach looked “forward to sharing more” after the conclusion of the partial government shutdown that began after midnight Wednesday when Senate Democrats demanding concessions on health policy and other spending priorities refused to provide the approval necessary to pass a Republican-backed budget proposal.

Legislative Context

As highlighted, in 2020, at the end of his initial term, Trump signed bipartisan legislation empowering the Treasury head to issue $1 coins during the calendar year 2026 that are “symbolic of the United States 250th anniversary”.

Design Components

The front of the coin on whose concept Beach commented recently featured Trump’s likeness alongside “Liberty”, “Our Trust in God”, and “from 1776 to 2026”.

The back evoked the attempt on Trump’s life at a campaign event in Pennsylvania last year, when law enforcement said a shooter injured Trump’s right ear and wounded two others before being shot to death by the Secret Service.

Trump lifted his fist after the attack – one of two assassination attempts for him as he won election for a return to the White House in 2024 – and exclaimed, “Fight, fight, fight!” with an national banner looming nearby.

Clarification

A statement from a Treasury representative indicated that the proposal which Beach’s X post discussed was not the “definitive coin design”. But the response asserted that “this proposal effectively captures the lasting character of our country and democratic system, even in the wake of significant challenges”.

Trump’s approval rating on average has plummeted to negative figures, as his new presidency has reduced healthcare protections and dietary support that benefits the needy, while also imposing tariffs that led to a noted increase in cost of living.

Among other things, the administration has also sent US armed forces into the urban centers of multiple cities, eliminated roughly significant funding in support for inoculations such as the ones that played a role in stopping the Covid pandemic, and struggled to contain a scandal over his former association with notorious offender Jeffrey Epstein.
